Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharma)

Diploma of Pharmacy is a 2 Years annual Programme, which involves the study of Pharmaceutical Sciences which includes Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacognosy and Pharmacology, laws governing dispensing and manufacturing of medicines, etc. The objective of the course is to use these concepts to train students to become qualified Registered Pharmacist. The Programme is duly published by the University Grants Commission u/s 22 of UGC Act, 1956 and Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi.

Medicines are chemicals used for prevention, diagnosis or treatment of diseases. All vaccines and sera’s falls mainly into preventive categories, where their usage prevents the subject to get infected. Diagnosis is concerned with pathological or radiological investigations where chemicals or reagents are being used for helping in the diagnosis of a disease condition. Treatment is concerned with curing or correcting diseased state. Healthcare is a sector which affects our society and all Governments around the globe are concerned with health issues. Though with the help of medicines, the human race could get rid of many diseases but with the emergence of new diseases and resistance against existing medicines, the challenges are more today.

To combat diseases Healthcare triangle is designed, where a Pharmacist plays an equally important role at par with Doctors and Nursing/Paramedical staff.


Minimum qualification for admission to Diploma in Pharmacy Part-I course is passed in any of the following examinations with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Mathematics.

(1) Intermediate examination in Science;

(2) The first year of the three-year degree course in Science,

(3) 10+2 examination (academic stream) in Science;

(4) Pre-degree examination;

(5)  Any other qualification approved by the Pharmacy Council of India as equivalent to any of the above examination.

There shall be reservation of seats for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes candidates in accordance with the instructions issued by the Central Govt. /State Govts., as the case may be from time to time.

The duration of the course is of two academic years in addition to 500 hours of practical training spread over a period of not less than 3 months.
